Running a Business While Raising Babies: 10 Tips to Thrive

Hey there fellow mom-preneur :)

Balancing the hustle of running a business with the joys (and chaos) of motherhood is no easy feat. But guess what? You’ve got this!

Thriving as both a mom and a business owner is totally possible with a few strategies up your sleeve. Let’s dive into some tips that can help make your journey a bit smoother.

The photos below are from a recent “Mommy and Me” mini brand session day I hosted! Each client was able to bring their children to incorporate them into their brand mini session. It was SO cute and I absolutely loved seeing all of these proud mamas running a business AND raising babies!

1. Embrace the Power of Scheduling

Time seems to be the one thing we never have enough of. One of the best ways to manage it all is by embracing the power of scheduling. Use a planner or digital calendar to map out your day. I personally block out seperate time for business tasks, family activities, and, importantly, some "me time."

Multi-tasking made me feel more burned out and overstimulated so by setting a clear schedule, it can minimize the stress of juggling multiple roles!

2. Create a Kid-Friendly Workspace

You probably have a dedicated area where you can focus on your business tasks. If your little ones are around, include a small play corner with toys and books to keep them entertained. This way, you can keep an eye on them while getting work done.

3. Delegate and Outsource

You don’t have to do it all. Delegate household chores and business tasks whenever possible. Hire a babysitter or enlist the help of family members to watch the kids during your busiest work hours. For your business, consider outsourcing tasks like bookkeeping, social media management, or even brand photography.

4. Prioritize Self-Care

Taking care of yourself is crucial for thriving in both roles. Prioritize self-care activities that rejuvenate you, whether it’s a relaxing bath, a workout session, or a quiet moment with a book.

I have a few local spots where one evening a week, I take my laptop out of the house to work. The change in scenery really helps boost my productivity! Remember, a happy and healthy mom is a more effective business owner.

5. Leverage the Power of Brand Photography

Here’s a tip that can revolutionize your business: brand photography. High-quality, professional photos can make a world of difference in how your brand is perceived. Investing in brand photography can save you time and effort in several ways:

  • Consistency and Professionalism: Consistent, professional images make your brand look polished and reliable. This builds trust with your audience, making it easier to attract and retain customers.

  • Efficiency: With a library of ready-to-use images, you’ll spend less time scrambling for visuals for your website, social media, and marketing materials. This frees up more time for you to focus on growing your business and spending quality time with your family.

  • Engagement: Eye-catching photos are more likely to engage your audience on social media. More engagement means more visibility and, ultimately, more business.

Think of brand photography as an investment that pays off in making your business operations smoother and more efficient.

6. Set Realistic Goals

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by trying to achieve everything at once. Set realistic goals for your business and personal life. Break them down into manageable tasks and celebrate your progress along the way. Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

7. Connect with Other Mom Entrepreneurs

There’s strength in numbers! I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting up with fellow mom entrepreneurs for support, advice, and let’s be honest, adult conversation! Join online communities, attend networking events, and share your experiences. Knowing you’re not alone on this journey can be incredibly encouraging.

8. Celebrate Small Wins

Celebrate every victory, no matter how small. Did you manage to complete a project on time? Celebrate it! Did you finally get the kids to bed on schedule? That’s a win! Recognizing and celebrating your achievements will keep you motivated and positive.

9. Be Flexible and Adaptable

Motherhood and entrepreneurship both come with their fair share of surprises. Embrace flexibility and adaptability. Plans may change, and that’s okay! Being able to pivot and adjust will help you navigate the ups and downs with grace.

10. Remember Why You Started

Whenever things get tough, remind yourself why you started this journey. Whether it’s to provide for your family, pursue your passion, or create a legacy, keeping your “why” in mind will fuel your determination and drive.

You’re doing an amazing job balancing your business and your family. By incorporating these tips, you can thrive as both a mom and a business owner.

Keep pushing forward, and remember, you’re a supermom!
